Islands of Italy

Join us on this exploration of Italy as we explore some of its timeless islands with their aura of history, unique island lifestyle and spectacular beauty. Beginning our voyage in Sardinia and the ancient city of Cagliari we will sail to stunning La Maddelena which is one of those ports well off the tourist track with not a big cruise ship in site which we are fortunate to be able to visit due to the size of our vessel.

Our itinerary is a mix of island hopping to places such as Ischia, Capri and the Lipari Islands, each with their unique island lifestyle and spectacular beauty, some fascinating archaeological sites including the Lost City of Paestum and of course not forgetting the Eternal City of Rome, a city which no matter how many times you visit is always as enchanting as your first time. Our voyage ends in Sicily, an endlessly fascinating island with its Norman architecture overlaid with Islamic influences.

The local church proudly displays silver candlesticks and a crucifix which was presented to them by Nelson in 1804.

This morning enjoy a tour of Elba including the enchanting village of Capoliveri, which preserves an almost medieval atmosphere in its architecture and offers a superb panoramic view out over the gulf of Lacona. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the twisting old streets followed by some free time to browse the tiny shops and boutiques. We will continue to the 17th-century country wine farm, “La Chiusa,” beautifully nestled in a vineyard estate surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the ocean. Here we will experience the estate's interesting cellar to learn how the wine is handled and produced before enjoying a tasting of the vineyard's delicious passiti, complemented by assorted light snacks in the garden. Return to the vessel for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure.
Day 5 - ANZIO FOR ROME.
We will dock in Anzio for our full day excursion to the ‘Eternal City’ of Rome which will include some of the most important landmarks. Day 6 - ISCHIA & CAPRI.
First colonised by the Greeks in the 8th century B.C, the verdant volcanic island of Ischia is famous for its therapeutic thermal springs and as a holiday island. A resort since Roman times, Capri was a favourite of the emperors Augustus and Tiberius and although only small, has a wealth of history. We will explore the island on a guided excursion.
Day 7 - AGROPOLI.
Agropoli is a convenient port for one of southern Italy’s greatest attractions; the ancient, lost city of Paestum. Rediscovered in the 18th century and formerly known as Poseidonia, the site dates back to a Greek settlement in the 7th century B.C. After a guided tour of Paestum, we drive the short distance to the delightful Palazzo Belmonte Hotel for lunch. The 17th century Palazzo Belmonte is the only Italian Palazzo, situated directly on a beach. This really is a very special place and after dining al fresco there will be some free time to explore the small town of Santa Maria di Castellabate or relax in the beautiful grounds of the Palazzo.

Day 8 - LIPARI ISLANDS.

Sail over lunch to Catania for a guided walking tour.
